The Virtual & Augmented Reality Technology-enhanced Learning (VARTEL) conference series was initiated in Singapore in 2012. It has since travelled to Holland (2014), China (2016), Finland (2018), and held Virtually due to the COVID-19 Pandemic (2020).

A decade after its inception, the conference will be hosted on the African continent for the first time ever. The University of Johannesburg is excited to welcome all VARTEL 2022 delegates to the city of Johannesburg, and we’ll ensure that our online delegates also get to experience a bit of African hospitality.

Format of conference

The conference will be held in hybrid mode with the option to attend in-person at the University of Johannesburg or to participate virtually.

Conference theme

The conference invites papers on research related to the use of virtual and augmented reality in teaching and learning in school and tertiary education.

You are invited to submit an abstract of up to 500 words. Authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to submit a proceedings paper in the longer format of the presentation type, which will be reviewed before being accepted into the VARTEL conference proceedings.
